Criteria for Web Site Evaluation

Critical evaluation of web sites is very important.  The following critieria are among those used to assess the value and reliability of individual sites:

  • Accuracy   Are statistics, quotes, details, or references provided?  Are any of the sources from peer reviewed publicatons?
  • Authority  What are the credentials or background of the person/organization responsible for the web site?
  • Bias/Objectivity Is the information biased due to viewpoints of the organization or author creating the site? What is the source of the information?
  • Completeness   Does the information provide a well-rounded assessment of the topic?
  • Currency   Is the information current?   Is the site currently maintained and frequently updated?
