The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is available to current students, faculty, and staff of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Public patrons should contact their local library about Interlibrary Loan services.
UAFS patrons must present their ID when picking up ILL items.
Students whose library accounts are not in good standing (who have fines or overdues) will not be allowed to pick up ILL items until those issues are resolved.
Students must be enrolled in summer courses to use Interlibrary Loan during the summer.
*CDs, DVDs, Reference books, microfilm, and rare books or materials are rarely circulated, so we may be unable to find a library to fill those requests.
Interlibrary Loan services are normally provided at no cost to current UAFS students, staff, and faculty. In an effort to keep borrowing costs at a minimum, we will first seek to borrow materials from other libraries who share with no fee attached. In the instance a fee is assessed, we will contact you in advance to see if you want to pay the fee or cancel the request.
Courtesy reminders and overdue notices are sent to the borrower via email and/or opt-in text messages.
Failure to return items on time will result in a fine of $1.00 per day and suspension of the student's library privileges. Students may also be assessed for replacement costs for unreturned items. Unpaid fines and unreturned ILL items will result in a hold on your University account, blocking access to transcripts, diplomas, and registration.
Patrons will be assessed for lost or damaged items, including a nonrefundable $10 processing fee and the replacement costs as determined by the lending library. If the missing item is later returned within the same fiscal year the charge was applied and the lending library accepts it, the replacement cost for the item will be removed from the patron's account.
The Interlibrary Loan staff at Boreham Library typically processes loan requests from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Loan requests may not processed on weekends or days that the library is closed.
Articles generally arrive 24-48 hours after they have been requested during the work-week. Articles will be delivered electronically to your Interlibrary Loan account, unless you request otherwise.
Books and other library resources generally arrive within two weeks after they have been requested, depending on where we are borrowing from. Books and other items will be kept at the Circulation desk. You must bring your UAFS ID to retrieve ILL items.
Exceptions to delivery times can and will occur, depending on the availability of the item and response time from lending libraries.
The loan period is determined by the lending library.
We will automatically request a renewal shortly before an item's initial due date. Renewals are made at the discretion of the lending library as is the length of the renewal. Overdue items cannot be renewed. You will receive an e-mail/text if your item has been renewed and what the new due date will be.
We will not borrow the same title more than two times for the same patron.
A lending library may place restrictions such as no copying/scanning, the item cannot leave the library, or no renewals. These conditions will be indicated on the label attached to the item as well as in the notification messages you receive. All lending library restrictions will be observed.
You will receive e-mail notification when their items are available as well as reminders when items are due or overdue. You may also opt-in to text message notifications.
Lending libraries have the right to issue a recall notice at any time. If you receive a recall notice, please return the item to the Circulation desk as soon as possible. Upon receiving a recall notice, we will seek to find the same item from a different library for you. A block on your library privileges and fines/fees may be assessed if you fail to return the item within three business days.
