Subject Search:  The Library of Congress Subject Headings are used in the "Everything" search.  Subject searches produce specific results, but they may also miss items that wouuld be retrieved by keyword searches.

                            

Keyword Search:  Keyword searches use natural language words either alone or joined by connector words such as AND or OR.  They produce the most comprehensive search results but also can bring in many irrelevant items.

Search Options:   Special  options are often available to help refine search results.  These include the following:

"         "          enclosing phrases in quotes to ensure searching as a complete term

!   or    *          used at the end of a word stem to allow for multiple word endings     adolescen!    

?                      used within a word to allow for variant word spellings     wom?n         (woman or women)
