Databases are collections of data, organized to be retrieved by a computer. At one time, a library purchased subscriptions to many scholarly journals. Now the library subscribes to databases that contain scholarly articles and other information, and the library's users are given access through a portal. A database is often organized around a particular discipline.
It's helpful to identify the kind of information you need. Do you need a company report, statistics to support an assigned paper, general information? Read through the descriptions of the five Business Databases on the left. Use the descriptions to complete the worksheet below. This exercise will help you target where to look for information in the next module.
