Depositing Your Work in Paw Prints

Paw Prints is intended for the faculty, students, staff, and partners of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. All UAFS faculty, staff, and students are authorized to deposit their scholarly and creative works. Works are deposited in the appropriate collection, organized by departments. 

Submission Process

Before submitting any works, review the Collection Development Policy.

Creating Your Account

Log in to Paw Prints using your UAFS PortalGuard username and password. On your first log in, your account is automatically created. You are now ready to begin adding your works to Paw Prints. 

Submitting an Item

  1. Log in to Paw Prints using your UAFS credentials. 
    1. The login feature is in the upper right corner of the page, choose the "Log in with Shibboleth" option.
  2. On the left side, pop out management sidebar select "New" and then "Item."
  3. Select the collection to add your item to based on your role at the university and department you are a member of. This will open the Submission User Interface.
  4. On the Submission User Interface is divided into five sections.
    1. "Select Collection" allows you to confirm that you are depositing to the correct collection or to change the collection using a dropdown menu.
    2. "Describe" section is where you add the descriptive information about the item, including author names and departments, title, date of issue, and other applicable information. See the Describing Your Work section of this guide for field level explanations.
    3. "Upload" section allows you to upload one or more files. This can be done through dragging and dropping the files onto the page or by navigating to the files using the browse function at the top of the Submission User Interface page.
    4. "License" section is were you must agree to the Paw Prints distribution license, this license allows us to host and distribute your work while you retain your copyright. 
    5. "Deposit" button is the final step, once all fields are completed the button becomes available. After clicking the button your uploaded work will enter into a workflow for approval by the Paw Prints managers. 
  5. After the work is deposited and approved, you will receive a confirmation email with a permanent and shareable link to your work.

Describing Your Work

Author: Enter the author's full name, last name first. You can add the full middle name or middle initial after the first name. Multiple authors can be added by selecting the "Add more" button.

Department: Enter the department the author(s) are affiliated with. Multiple departments can be added by selecting the "Add more" button.

Title: Enter the full title of your work. This is a required field.

Other title: Enter any alternative titles that the item has, this can included translations or abbreviate versions of the title. Multiple alternative titles 

can be added by selecting the "Add more" button.

Date of Issue: Enter the date of the original publication of the work, presentation, or distribution. You must enter the year at minimum.

Publisher: Enter the name of the entity responsible for the original publication of the work. 

Citation: Enter a bibliographic citation for the work, this will help users find the original publication.

Series/Report No.: If the work is part of a series, enter the name of the series and the number of the work within the series.

Identifiers: Enter any identifiers of the work, such as ISBN, ISSN, URI, or other. These can be selected from a drop down menu. Multiple identifiers can be added by selecting the "Add more" button.

Type: Select the type of work from the drop down menu.

Language:  Select the main language of the work from the drop down menu. 

Subject keywords: Add subject keywords that describe your work. This field is populated using a thesaurus that defines subjects broadly, begin typing to see keywords that can be selected from.

Abstract: Enter the full text of the abstract or other summary of the work.

Sponsors:  Enter the names of any organization, group, or person who funded or sponsored the development of the work. Funding codes should also be entered here.

Description: Enter any additional description of the work (language is "other" was selected from the language drop down for example). There is not need to enter the file size or type here, the system will detect and add this information automatically.
