Census of Marine Life
The Census of Marine Life, was a 10-year international effort undertaken in to assess the diversity (how many different kinds), distribution (where they live), and abundance (how many) of marine life. This effort produced the most comprehensive inventory of known marine life ever compiled and cataloged it as a basis for future research—30 million records - with the discovery of over 6,000 new species.
